Kussh Sinha Reacts to ‘Saiyaara’ Plagiarism Claims: ‘Nikita Roy Is Original’

-

Filmmaker Kussh Sinha has finally broken his silence on the controversy surrounding the hit song Saiyaara, which some netizens recently alleged bears uncanny resemblance to a track from a lesser-known Korean film. In a strongly worded statement, Sinha called the plagiarism accusations “baseless and unfair,” while defending both the song and his directorial project Nikita Roy and the Book of Darkness.

Saiyaara is a deeply personal and emotionally rooted song that has been crafted with originality. Every beat, every line, reflects our story and vision. Drawing a lazy parallel with some obscure foreign film undermines the hard work of an entire team,” Kussh said.

The soulful track, sung by Faheem Abdullah and composed by Arko, recently trended globally on Spotify, garnering praise for its haunting melody and lyrical depth. However, online forums began drawing comparisons with a Korean ballad used in a 2016 film, prompting accusations of creative borrowing.

Kussh Sinha responded:

  • “We didn’t even reference any international work for Saiyaara. It was inspired by the themes of loss, mystery, and redemption at the heart of Nikita Roy.”

  • “Such claims are a disservice to our musicians who have poured their heart into creating something timeless.”

  • “Creativity should be celebrated, not constantly questioned.”

  • “We stand by our originality, and if needed, we are open to a public comparison of the two pieces.”

Despite the chatter, support continues to pour in from fans and members of the industry, many of whom believe Saiyaara stands out on its own artistic merit.

As Nikita Roy and the Book of Darkness gears up for its theatrical release, the makers hope the conversation will shift from controversy to celebration of the film’s layered storytelling and evocative music.
