-

Farhan Akhtar’s iconic sports biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is all set to return to the big screen, with a nationwide theatrical re-release slated for July 18, 2025. The re-release marks the 12th anniversary of the film’s original release in 2013 and celebrates the legacy of both the legendary athlete Milkha Singh and the transformative performance by Farhan Akhtar that captivated audiences over a decade ago.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag narrates the gripping and inspirational story of Milkha Singh, popularly known as the “Flying Sikh” of India. The film traces his traumatic childhood during the Partition, his rise from a refugee camp to becoming one of India’s most celebrated Olympians, and his struggles and triumphs both on and off the track.

The film’s re-release is part of a larger effort to introduce the biographical epic to a new generation of cinema-goers, many of whom may not have experienced its full grandeur on the big screen. The digitally remastered version promises a sharper, more immersive viewing experience with improved sound and picture quality.

Farhan Akhtar, who underwent a dramatic physical transformation and intense athletic training to portray Milkha Singh, expressed his excitement on social media:

“Grateful for the love this film continues to receive. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag returns to theatres on July 18. A tribute to the legend and a reminder of how far passion and perseverance can take you. Hope to see you at the movies again!”

The announcement has been welcomed enthusiastically by fans, athletes, and film critics alike, many of whom consider Bhaag Milkha Bhaag one of the finest sports dramas ever produced in Indian cinema. The film not only won multiple Filmfare Awards but also earned a National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra also commented on the re-release, calling it “a moment of pride” to bring Milkha Singh’s story back to the big screen:

“This film is a tribute to a man who taught us what it means to rise from the ashes. In today’s times, Milkha Singh’s journey is even more relevant.”

The film also features stellar performances by Divya Dutta, Pavan Malhotra, Yograj Singh, and Sonam Kapoor in a special appearance. Its soulful music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, particularly the title track “Zinda,” remains etched in the hearts of audiences.

With sports biopics continuing to thrive in Indian cinema, the re-release of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag serves as both a nostalgic revisit and a timely inspiration, reminding us of the strength, endurance, and emotional power of a truly well-told story.

Tickets for the re-release will be available across major multiplex chains starting July 16, with special discounts for students and athletes. Fans can also expect limited-edition memorabilia and behind-the-scenes footage to be showcased as part of the re-release package.
